Q7: What’s an “option” in a degree program? Do I have to have one?
At The University of Montana, an Option is “groups of courses . . . which lead to a specialization within one major . . . The names of approved options will be recorded on the permanent records of those students who have satisfactorily completed the requirements . . .  (UM Catalog).” In the B.A. and M.A. programs, options allow students to specialize in several different areas. Students who either want a more general background or want to specialize in a more individual manner can choose the “general” option. Options can be added or changed at will.  In contrast, the Ph.D. program has a single track, “Cultural Heritage and Applied Anthropology.”
