The philosophy of the Anthropology Department is that advising should be a natural extension of teaching. Therefore, the tenured and tenure track faculty all serve as advisors, working with students from the freshman to the Ph.D. candidate level. Minimally, advising is about selecting courses to efficiently attain the sought-after degree. However, advising is also about academic development leading to career goals, and the Anthropology advisors work to fulfill this larger role. It is important for students to see their advisors once a semester during the advising period—or more if the circumstances require more.
Students normally see their assigned advisor and should direct questions about the program to them. View our faculty list to see the list of their names, phone numbers and emails. If you need further help to locate your advisor, contact the Department Administrative officer, Linda McLean in the main office (SS 203; also [406] 243-2693 or linda.mclean@umontana.edu). If you have particular advising issues, Professor Anna Prentiss is the lead advisor for undergraduates and Professor Kimber McKay for graduate students.
