Description:

Veteran foreign correspondent Henriette Löwisch, came to the school as a Distinguished Pollner Professor in 2006. She enjoyed it so much that she joined the permanent faculty three years later as an associate professor.

Löwisch directs the school’s graduate program in Environmental and Natural Resources Journalism and oversees publication of the Montana Journalism Review. She teaches the school’s global current events, international reporting and the reporting course for graduate students.

She has also developed an innovative course that teaches scientists to be better communicators.

She began her journalism career as a reporter for her hometown paper in the Black Forest. She was a freelance writer for a German women’s magazine and an assistant news producer for Austrian television before joining Agence France-Presse, the international wire service, in 1992.

At AFP, she served as senior editor, editor-in-chief, Brussels correspondent, U.S. correspondent and foreign editor.

She received her professional training at Deutsche Journalistenschule in Munich and earned her graduate diploma from the University of Munich.

Löwisch, who splits the year between homes in Missoula and Berlin, is the author of the German edition of “Journalism for Dummies.”
