I speak and read Indonesian/Malay, and Javanese.
I did fieldwork in the Isle of Mann in 1980 for my B.A. in Anthropology.
I have done language study, and extended fieldwork, and also directed study abroad semesters in Indonesia, primarily on Java and Bali, between 1984 and 1996.
I have visited India, Nepal, Singapore, the Netherlands, and Germany for international conferences between 1985 and 2001.
