Description:
Dr Brenda J. Child is an associate professor in the Department of American Studies at the University of Minnesota. She received her PhD in History at the University of Iowa and was a Katrin Lamon Fellow at the School of American Research, Santa Fe, New Mexico. Her book, Boarding School Seasons: American Indian Families, 1900-1940 (University of Nebraska, 1998), won the North American Indian Prose Award. Child’s newest book is Holding Our World Together: Ojibwe Women and the Survival of Community (Viking/Penguin, 2012). She is a board member of the Minnesota Historical Society and will join the Board of Trustees of the National Museum of the American Indian at the Smithsonian in 2013. Child was born on the Red Lake Ojibwe Reservation in northern Minnesota where she is a citizen. She resides with her family in Saint Paul and Bemidji, Minnesota.
