Dr. Carol Brewer, Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and  Professor of Biology, joined the faculty at UM in 1993. She received a B.A. in Biology from California State University, Fullerton (1981), and went on to complete a B.S. in Science Education (1985), M.S. in Zoology and Physiology (1986), and Ph.D. in Botany (1993) at the University of Wyoming.  She has research programs and mentors graduate students in physiological plant ecology and ecological education (http://www.dbs.umt.edu/people/faculty/facultyDetail.aspx?id=874). Recent and on-going projects in her laboratory include facilitating collaborations between scientists and teachers, training teachers to use their schoolyards for leading ecological investigations with their students (http://www.bioed.org/ecos/), exploring new methods for teaching science to undergraduates, and using new assessment strategies to clearly connect teaching and learning.  Her research program in plant physiological ecology has two main foci: 1) functional plant morphology – particularly at the leaf level, and 2) conservation biology of temperate forests in southern South America.  In the Dean’s office, she is a liaison to the science departments in CAS, the editor of the CAS Newsletter and Website, and supports the faculty mentoring and research and creative activities missions of the College.
