Walter N. King Memorial Scholarship
Criteria: Senior English or humanities major at The University of Montana who is an outstanding student.
Scholarship Amount: Varies - approximately $90
James P. Welch Jr. Memorial Award
Criteria: Udergraduate students, preferably Native American and Montanan, studying Creative Writing in the English Department. A minimum of a $1,000 scholarship per year shall be awarded on the basis of talent in writing rather than on high GPA. The Creative Writing Program's Scholarship Selection Committee shall determine the recipients.

Maureen Mansfield Scholarship
Criteria: Undergraduate students in the English Department with a concentration in literature. The amounts and number of awards shall be determined by the English Department Committee as appointed by the chair of the department.
Scholarship Amount: Varies - approximately $800
Merriam Frontier Award
Criteria: The purpose of the Merriam Frontier Award is to enhance the visibility and reputation of The University of Montana as a center of Northwest culture and of creative writing and to stimulate the literary aspirations of a cross-section of UM students.
Scholarship Amount: Varies - approximately $1,900
Richard Hugo Memorial Scholarship
Criteria: Graduate student enrolled in the MA or MFA program in poetry at UM. Preference should be given to a Montana resident. Selection will be based on the review of not more than six poems submitted by the applicant. An advisory committee consisting of the UM English Department chairperson (or designee) and other persons designated by Ripley Hugo will review and select applicants for the scholarship, to be a minimum of $1,000 each year. The recipient must possess potential and talent in the area of poetry writing.

Margaret Beebe Memorial Scholarship
Criteria: A University of Montana student who is judged by a selection committee in the Creative Writing Departmentat UM to be outstanding in the field of creative writing.

A.B. Guthrie Memorial Fund
Scholarship Amount: Approximately $800
Criteria: The purpose of the A.B. Guthrie Memorial Fund is to provide a fellowship to a graduate student at The University of Montana in journalism and creative writing.
Scholarship Amount: Varies - approximately two scholarships of $850 each. One in Journalism and one in Creative Writing.

Creative Writing Scholarship
Criteria: Talented student in the creative writing department who shows financial need.
Scholarship Amount: Two students receive $1,000 each.
Greta Wrolstad Travel Award
Criteria: Outstanding poet in the first or second year of the M.F.A. program within the Creative Writing Program at The University of Montana. The award is for support of travel during the summer or academic year to a writing workshop, conference, or residency in the U.S. or abroad. Candidates should apply to the Creative Writing Program by February 1st to ensure that the financial award is granted prior to their departure date. Applicants do not need to show financial need to be eligible for this award. The award should be made at $1,000 or more to provide meaningful support for the recipient. The selection of recipients shall be determined by a committee composed of the director of the Creative Writing program and selected Creative Writing faculty.

Nettie Weber Creative Writing Award
Criteria: The purpose of the Nettie Weber Creative Writing Award is to enhance the opportunities and further the artistic aspirations and development of creative writing students at UM by helping to defray the costs of attending a writing workshop anywhere in the continental United States. Recipients of the award must be fiction writers or poets (alternate between the two if needed). They may be undergraduate or graduate students and are to be selected on submission of five poems, one short story or a chapter from a novel.
