Environmental Studies Scholarships

Montana Good Works Fellowship

Criteria: Provides graduate fellowships and professional internships for two students each year for the next five years.  The fellows will be selected on the basis of academic merit and demonstrated commitment to outstanding promise as future leaders in sustainable food and farming systems.  Successful applicants will demonstrate their past, present, and future commitment to one or more of the following areas:  sustainable agriculture, community food security, food justice and democracy, stewardship and conservation of agricultural lands, the development of local/regional food systems, urban agriculture, rural economic development, and/or a related topic.

Montana Environmental Health Association (MEHA) Scholarship

Criteria: Student enrolled in UM's Environmental Studies Program with an emphasis in Environmental Health.  The recipient must be making good academic progress as determined by the faculty of the EVST Program.  Selection ofthe recipient each year will be made by a committee appointed by the director of EVST.

Scholarship Amount: $500

Byron D. and Bernice Dawson Memorial Fund

Criteria: Students enrolled in the Environmental Studies Program at The University of Montana.

Wiancko Environmental Studies Scholarship

Criteria: First-year graduate students in Environmental Studies who have financial need.  The students should have demonstrated a history of commitment, leadership, initiative and integrity.  The EVST faculty shall be responsible for recruiting and choosing students who fit these criteria.  They also have the discretion to award a full one-year scholarship to an individual student or to award a half scholarship to two separate students each year.  Should the available funding exceed what is needed to meet these parameters, EVST can award more scholarships as the director deems appropriate.  It will be the responsibility of the EVST director and each recipient to submit to Wiancko Family Fund a letter or report detailing the student's scholastic and environmental activities of that year and evaluating his or her success.

Tom Roy Family Scholarship in Environmental Studies

Criteria: Students either incoming or continuing in the Environmental Studies Program at The University of Montana who demonstrate merit as determined by the director of the EVST Program.  Financial need is to be considered.

Amount: Varies - approximately $4,000 per award.

Leonard and Sandy Sargent EVST Graduate Fellowship

Criteria: Graduate Students involved in environmental studies.

Ron and Nancy Erickson Scholarship in EVST

Criteria: Graduate student in the Environmental Studies Program who is pursuing an emphasis in either environmental ethics or environmental humanities.

Amount: Varies - two scholarships approximately $1,400 each.
