History Scholarships

Edward Earl Bennett Memorial Scholarship

Criteria: Senior history or history-political science major who demonstrates general excellence in the field, without regard to need.  The award is to be announced in the spring of the student's junior year.

Scholarship awards and amounts vary:  Please contact department.

Professor Robert O. Lindsay Scholarship

Criteria: History major at UM.  The recipient will be selected based on academic merit.

Amount: Varies - approximately $1,000

Harold E. Blinn Scholarship in History

Criteria: History major who is a deserving student and who has demonstrated good academic progress.

Amount: Varies - approximately $900

Eugene C. Tidball Scholarship Endowment

Criteria: Deserving UM student.  Recipient must be a graduate student in history and must have exhibited the ability to write narrative history clearly and free of esoteric and scientific language while maintaining a high level of scholarly discipline, in a way that can be understood and enjoyed by an educated member of the general public.  The recipient is to be chosen by the faculty of the Department of History, upon recommendation of the Graduate Committee.

Amount: Varies - approximately $1,000

Carman Skari Scholarship in History

Criteria: History major at UM who has freshman or sophomore standing and has demonstrated academic excellence.  The History Department has the discretion to determine the number of awards to be given each year.

Amount: Varies - approximately $500

Jules A. Karlin History Scholarship for Seniors

Criteria: History major who is a junior and has demonstrated a capacity for independent thinking, intellectual growth and academic achievement.

Amount: Varies - approximately $4,800 total budget

Jules A. Karlin History Scholarship for Juniors

Criteria: History major at The University of Montana who is a senior in the year of the award. The recipient must have demonstrated independence of thought

Helen Ingersoll Cappadocia and Ezio Cappadocia Fellowship

Criteria: Qualified and promising graduate students in European history. The recipient must display academic merit. The selection committee shall consist of the chair and the Europeanist faculty members of the Department of History who shall select the recipients and the amount and number of awards as described below.

Amount: Varies - currently two awards of $3,000 each.
