Overview: Each report will contain three parts: an update on your activities, a link to concepts from communication studies and a career development component.

Length: Approximately 5 pages (double spaced, 12 point font)

For this report please do the following:

1. Review. Describe what you have been doing at your internship since you started. What kinds of activities have you been doing? What kinds of challenges have you encountered? (1 page)

2. Interpersonal Communication. Consider some/all of the following: Describe your own communication with others in the organization so far. What feedback are you receiving about your communication? Are you initiating conversations, including yourself in decision making or taking some other role? Describe several different interpersonal communication episodes or interactions which you have observed so far. You may have been either a participant or an observer. Use any concepts/theories from your communication courses to analyze these interactions. (3 pages)

3. Career. Interview someone in the organization about their job. You should choose someone who has the kind of job that you might one day aspire to have. The interview will likely last about 20 minutes. You should take notes and write a summary of the interview for this report (1 page).

Consider asking the following questions (you do not need to ask all of these):

What is your educational and work background?

What in your background was most useful to get you to the position that you currently have?

How did you become interested in this career?

What advice would you give to someone who was starting out in this career?

What is the best part about your job?

What is the worst part about your job?

What mistakes do you see people making that are first starting out in this line of work?

What opportunities will be available in this field in the future?

You may also think of your own questions to get at specific issues you want to explore in more detail.
