Text: How to Write a BA Thesis, by Charles Lipson, Univ Chicago Press, 2005

Prerequisites:  Econ 311 and Econ 313 and 6 additional upper division economics courses and upper division standing.

Description and Objectives:  This course will assist you and monitor your progress in completing your senior thesis.  The culmination of the class will be the presentation of your research findings and a discussion of your work with your colleagues.

Grading:  Course grades are based on student performance in the following components with weights given.

Attendance/Participation in class                      10%

Homework                                                               10%

Thesis Oral Presentation                                      15%

Written Senior Thesis – May 5 3PM                 65%

Grades will be 100-92=A , 90-91=A-, 89-88=B+,87-82=B,81-80=B-,79-78=C+,77-72=C,71-70=C-,69-68=D+,67-62=D,61-60=D-,59 and less F

Attendance means coming to class on time and participation means being well-prepared and contributing at least once each period to the conversation without dominating it.  Hence, participation means both listening and speaking.

Policies:

1. Make Up presentations are only considered under truly exceptional cases.

2. Academic dishonesty will result in a score of zero for the assignment or exam in question.  University policy requires that I include the following statement. “All students must practice academic honesty.  Academic misconduct is subject to an academic penalty by the instructor and/or disciplinary sanction by the University.  All students need to be familiar with the Student Conduct Code.” http://www.umt.edu/SA/VPSA/index.cfm/page/1321

3.  March 4 4:30 PM is the last date to add or drop courses.   Between March 4 and May 2 courses may be added or dropped or changed in grading option by petition only.

4. Please set your cell phones to vibrate rather than ring and leave the classroom to take calls.

5.  Late homework is not accepted.  Late homework is work submitted after 2:10 of the due date.

6.  Everyone is given one attendance excused absence.   That is, you may miss one class before it begins to affect your grade in a negative fashion.  Since you may indeed become ill or have a death in your family, one would be well advised to attend faithfully until you know these ills are not to befall you this term.
