Undergraduate Creative Writing

For those of you wishing to try your own hand at writing, UM is a great place to start.  You will have the  
opportunity to work with our highly-published faculty and become part of our nationally-recognized writing
program.

All students can take introductory writing courses, but submissions are required for acceptance into the 
300- and 400-level courses.   We offer workshops in:

  • Fiction
  • Non-fiction
  • Poetry
  •  Advising Form

    Consent of the instructor is required for all ENCR 300- and 400-level fiction, nonfiction and poetry workshops.  To be considered for a workshop, you must follow the procedure described below.
    1. Create a cover page listing the following information:

    1. Edit, revise and attach a clean copy of…
    1. Place the submission packet in the instructor’s mailbox in the English Dept. (LA 133). Even though an instructor may not currently be on campus, please place clearly-labeled submissions in the appropriate instructor’s mailbox, since arrangements have been made to address this issue.  TBA instructor submissions should go to Prageeta Sharma’s mailbox.

    Note: You may choose to apply for more than one workshop, but must submit a separate packet to each instructor.

    The names of those admitted will be posted on the instructor’s office door on or before the first day of priority registration. (April 13, 2009)
