This year's Mortar Board Outstanding Seniors are Tessa Larson (English Teaching), Carly
Jenkins (Literature), and Rebecca Hefty (Creative Writing). Congratulations!
The department is inviting applications for adjunct positions
for the 2008-09 academic year, mostly in Composition.
GRAD/FAC CONFERENCE:
This year's Graduate Student and Faculty Research conference will be held on Saturday, April 5, in the
University Center. Besides poster and oral presentations by UM faculty and graduate students, the
conference will feature a Roundtable Discussion entitled "Ethics in Modern Graduate Studies."

GARLANDS:
The Department congratulates Professor Casey Charles for receiving the Pantzer Presidential Humanitarian Award,
Professor Katie Kane for being awarded a research grant by the Montana Committee for the Humanities,
and Professor Deirdre McNamer, whose novel Red Rover won the 2007 Montana Book Award.
THE NEW POET LAUREATE:
The English Department proudly congratulates Greg Pape for being named the new poet laureate of Montana. Governor
Brian Schweitzer announced that Pape would succeed Sandra Alcosser for a designation that "recognizes and honors
a citizen poet of exceptional talent and accomplishment."
The English Department is pleased to welcome an exciting group of visiting faculty
for the upcoming academic year.
CROSSROADS:
We welcome our new colleague and new Director of Creative Writing, Prageeta Sharma, and continue to celebrate
our retiring colleague, Kate Gadbow, whose stewardship of the program ended early this summer.
