Profile:

Ph.D., University of Oregon (1975). Past President of National Council of Teachers of English, Former Board Member of National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, Past President of Montana Association of Teachers of English Language Arts, Member at Large of the Conference on English Leadership, Past Secretary of Conference on English Education, Former Director of Montana Writing Project. She is the author of On Your Own: Writing (Prentice Hall, 1990) and On Your Own: Grammar (Prentice Hall, 1991). She is also the Senior Program Advisor for The Reader’s Choice (Glencoe/McGraw Hill, 2000) and the Senior Series Consultant for Grammar for Writing (William H. Sadlier, 2000). She is the editor of Chinese American Literature (Globe Book, 1993) and Dictionary of Characters in Children’s Literature (Franklin Watts, 2001). Dr. Chin appears on The Expanding Canon, a video program sponsored by the Annenberg Foundation and NCTE (WNET-13, 2003). She travels nationally and internationally to work with students and teachers at all levels of education. Dr. Chin has received the UM Burlington Northern Faculty Achievement Award (1985), the UM Distinguished Teacher Award (1990), and the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Florida State University-College of Education (1995). She teaches the undergraduate and graduate courses for beginning and experienced English language arts teachers.
