PhD, Indiana University (1992). Victorian literature and culture, romanticism, eighteenth-century British literature. Books: The High Road: Romantic Tourism, Scotland, and Literature, 1720-1820 (St. Martin’s, 1997) and The Evolutionary Imagination in Late-Victorian Novels: An Entangled Bank (Ashgate, 2007). Articles in Victorian Literature and Culture, English Literature in Transition, Albion, Keats-Shelley Journal, Eire-Ireland, The Age of Johnson, Paideuma, The Dalhousie Review, and The Dickens Studies Annual.
