MUD Project Site Redevelopment Charrette. WHEN: Feb 11, 6:30pm. WHERE: Zootown Arts Community Center (ZACC), 235 N. 1st St. W. MUD has initiated an ambitious site redevelopment effort to better fulfill its role and mission to create a model of sustainable living through education, demonstration, and celebration in the Missoula community. With a Neighborhoods grant, MUD hired MSU architecture students to produce 3 site layout designs. MUD is hosting the charrette to discuss these designs and gain community input for the future direction of this project. The design boards are posted at ZACC for viewing and comment before the meeting. FREE + Refreshments!.

2nd Annual NW Real Food Youth Convergence, Missoula - The Real Food Challenge (RFC) is a student-led, nationwide movement of committed young leaders who are helping their communities shift to more sustainable, socially just, and community-based food. Sustainable Wildcrafting, Cultivation, Uses & Integration into Permaculture Systems Workshop in Missoula—10AM-4PM Meadowsweet Herbs, Missoula
Around 50% of plants native to Montana have medicinal properties. This workshop will cover many of the most well-known and most useful species as well as some lesser-known ones. We will discuss medicinal and other uses, harvesting and processing, sustainable wildcrafting issues, and how these native plants can be used in ecosystem restoration to increase their abundance. The historic Moon-Randolph Homestead, part of Missoula’s Open Space System, is open Saturdays from 11 am-5 pm, from May through October (fire danger and weather permitting).  Visitors can picnic in the apple orchard, check out funky artifacts, take an historic tour or nap under the trees.

Volunteer for Bitterroot Wilderness Summer 2009! Explore the Sapphire & Blue Joint Wilderness Study Areas in the Bitterroot National Forest and contribute to the conservation of this unique area. Volunteers will work with experienced leaders to map and monitor weeds and wilderness character, and inventory campsites.  Join us for 3-5 day backpacking trips and help conserve these unique Wilderness Study Areas.  Learn about invasive species, native plants, monitoring methods, and the natural history of the Sapphire and Blue Joint Areas.  Backcountry experience is helpful but not necessary. Dinners are provided and transportation is available from Missoula. Volunteer for Veggies with Garden City Harvest. Help with planting, weeding, watering, and harvesting at a garden near you. Bring a sun hat, sunblock, water and your love of veggies & dirt. Garden organizers, locations, work times & days are here. Please call your garden organizer before coming the first time. Gardens are at: River Road, Orchard Gardens, Meadow Hill School, at 2nd & Inez Streets, on Northside near baseball fields (Cooley & Holmes, St) and near UM student housing.
