Professional Background Information:
Dr. Fluck holds a Ph.D. from The University of Montana with an emphasis in educational training and instructional technology. He also earned a Master’s degree in education and a Master’s degree in international media management. Since 2004, Dr. Fluck has served as the director of Multicultural Learning Solutions (MLS), holding positions as senior lecturer in the Department of Geography, and adjunct faculty for cultural and global competence in the School of Business Administration and the Davidson Honors College at UM. He is an expert in developing traditional and hybrid cultural and global competence courses.
MLS cultural and global competence courses were first developed in 2004 by Dr. Fluck to accommodate the growing demand and need for multicultural and global competence. Dr. Fluck, a native German, has worked as a curriculum developer, consultant and instructor in international competence management in Germany and at The University of Montana for over seven years.
In 1999, Dr. Fluck developed and implemented a media department at the International Business School in Bad Homburg, Germany. As department head he designed an international media business curriculum largely taught in English. He also developed innovative online teaching aids and e-learning methods for Business English and International Media & Marketing.
MLS courses, workshops and seminars are developed by Dr. Fluck and based on years of research and experience in international academia. MLS is one of the fastest growing programs offered at The University of Montana. Since spring 2004, student enrollment for courses, workshops and trainings with MLS content increased from 10 students in 2004-2005 to over 450 students in 2008-2009. In addition, Dr. Fluck was awarded the prestigious 2009 Community Recognition Award and the 2008 Nancy Borgman Diversity Award for his contributions in teaching cross-cultural and global awareness and understanding. Four years in a row, in 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009 he was the recipient of the Faculty Recognition Award by the University of Montana and the 2008 Special Recognition Award by the Office of the Vice-President for Student Affairs. Dr. Fluck and MLS were honored for the high-quality activities and programs offered for, and to, UM student. In addition, he received the 2006-2007 Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Award in Marketing and Management from the School of Business Administration, where he also teaches courses in cross-cultural management and business ethics every semester.
Furthermore, Dr. Fluck received the 2007 Best Paper Award from the Association for Global Business for a research study titled “Enhancing Global-Mindedness in International Business Students Using an Online Multicultural Supplement” and was also nominated for the Distinguished Service to International Education Award. He has published in the Journal of Global Business and the Journal of Teaching in International Business.

Selected Recent and Future Research Projects:
IIn his research, Dr. Fluck initially developed an online supplement prototype that reduced levels of ethnocentricity in participating students. This prototype served as a foundation for the design of a variety of multicultural and global competence courses at The University of Montana. His research focuses on global competence course development, cultural and human geography, issues in professional multicultural and global training, and hybrid course design and development.
Travel Experience:
Dr. Fluck has traveled extensively in Germany, Switzerland, Italy, France, Spain, England, Belgium, Holland, Canada, Mexico and of course the United States of America. He is fluent in German and English.
