Professional Background Information:

Dr. Kamp completed a Master’s degree in Geography at the Free University Berlin, Germany, in 1992 with a thesis in Geoarchaeology. In 1999, he received his Ph.D. in Natural Sciences from the Technical University Berlin with a thesis about Quaternary geomorphology and glaciations in the Pakistani Hindu Kush. In the period between these degrees he worked in an urban and regional planning office, and was with the Department of Space Sciences at the Free University Berlin, where he focused on airborne remote sensing and water quality monitoring of lakes and rivers in urban areas. After his Ph.D. degree, Dr. Kamp worked as an environmental consultant on river habitat monitoring. In 2001/2002, his post-doctoral studies at the Department of Geography and Geology at the University of Nebraska – Omaha were about remote sensing of glaciers in the Himalayas. From 2002 to 2005 he was an Assistant Professor of Geography and Environmental Science at DePaul University in Chicago before joining UM in summer 2005. His research focuses on high mountain geography, environmental monitoring, geomorphology, Quaternary glaciations, glaciology, and remote sensing. He carried out field work in Algeria, India, Jordan, Lesotho, Pakistan, Peru, South Africa, and Venezuela.
