Professional Information:

Professor Denney's principal academic interests are rural, town, and regional planning; rural economic development; and the regional geography of China. He has been a student of land use planning for twenty-five years and has been involved in land planning in academia, in the public sector, and as a consulting planner in the private sector.

Professor Denney has lived and studied in many areas of the world, the most recent being China. Since 1988, he has lived in China while on sabbatical assignment and as a visiting scholar at Hangzhou University and later at Shanghai International Studies University. Presently he is a consultant for American/Chinese joint ventures regarding construction of thermal electric power plants and the location of retail establishments in China. He recently published The 1998 United States/China Business Survey (© 1998), which is available for purchase.

His most recent research focuses on four Chinese villages in Zhejiang and Jiangsu Provinces. The thrust of this research pertains to the dynamics of Chinese agriculture at the village level and the development of township and village enterprise.

Professor Denney has published more than 30 articles and reports in both English and Chinese. He also has experience in the production of television documentaries and live via satellite teleconferences. His productions include "The Yucuna Indians of the Northwest Amazon" and "Encima de Auyan Tepui:" the latter, a photographic documentary of the plateau of Auyan Tepui in the Gran Savanna Region of Venezuela. He was also Executive Producer of the live via satellite national teleconference entitled, "Wildlife Conservation and the Hunting Tradition: The Hunting/Anti-Hunting Controversy."
