GEOS 439: APPLIED MAGNETICS – Final Exam;
Spring 2011; Tectonics, Structure, and Exploration Applications: Show me what you can do in terms of interpretation by applying the techniques and technologies we’ve developed in class. I want you to select and analyze a region of interest to you. I put together data from two broad regions (greater Bitterroot, and the Dillon quadrangle) in southwest Montana. The data include Google Earth overlays for the Geologic maps as well as the public total magnetic intensity (& gravity for kicks) data for the area. I also already transformed the coordinates (with Corpscon) from longitude, latitude to UTM so they are ready for gridding. You can choose another area if you want but let me know before you get too far in case you need help with coordinate transforms. So,
Ask (or email) me if you are running into technology or software problems. I want you to spend your time thinking and presenting, not spending hours on some software glitch - among us somebody probably knows the answer/trick. I am going to evaluate your critical thinking and understanding as well as the writing/presentation. Email me a ~4-5 page (not counting figures and references) of your analysis and conclusions. Refer to the page on field notes and reports for guidelines.
