Current Office Hours

Currently I am most easily available in the Paleontology Prep Lab (CHCB 323) from 2-5 every weekday, and often at other times.  I do occasionally visit my office (CHCB 103), but as I am not teaching this semester I do not have formal office hours.

Background

I am currently a Masters candidate in the Geosciences program at the University of Montana.  I am studying paleontology, in particular, the affect of mass extinctions on evolution.  My thesis project centers around the end-Triassic Mass Extinction, and it's affect on corals, bivalves, and other marine organisms.

Currently I am a lab assistant in the Paleontology lab.  In the past I have been a Teaching Assistant for Sci 225 (Biology and Earth Science for Education majors) and Sci 226 (Physics and Astronomy for Education majors).  I hope to be a TA for Sci 225 again this spring.

Education

I earned my bachelors here at the University of Montana!  I have a BA in General Science Education and Biology Education.

I am currently attending the University of Montana in the Geosciences program to earn a Masters in Paleontology.

Teaching Experience

  • September 2011 to present

Lab Assistant – Paleontology Center, The University of Montana. I prepare fossils and thin sections for photography and curation, maintain equipment used for fossil and thin section preparation.

  • August to December 2009

Teaching Assistant – University of Montana Physics and Astronomy Department. I taught lab sections and corrected papers for SCI 225, a Physics and Astronomy class for students majoring in primary education.

  • August 2007 to June 2009

7-12 Science Teacher – Heart Butte School. I created curriculum and taught 7-12 Science, including Life Science, Physical Science, Biology, Advanced Biology, Anatomy, Earth Science, Chemistry, Physics, and Replacement Science

Field of Study

I study Invertebrate Paleontology.  In particular, I am interested in how mass extinctions affect the course of evolution.

Affiliations

  • Geologic Society of America
  • Paleontological Society
  • SEPM (Society for Sedimentary Geology)
  • American Association for Petroleum Geologists (AAPG)

Professional Experience

  • September 2011 to present

Lab Assistant Paleontology Center, The University of Montana. I prepare fossils and thin sections for photography and curation, maintain equipment used for fossil and thin section preparation.

  • February 2010 to December 2010

Research Assistant Paleontology Center, The University of Montana. I photographed and identified invertebrate fossils, create images for publication, and assisted with writing and editing of papers for publication.

  • July 2006 to July 2007

Montana Campus Compact VISTA – Belmont Senior Center. I delivered and prepared Meals on Wheels, and maintained database (Department of Public Health and Human Services MASTS tracking system).

Hobbies

I love to swim (you can often find my at the Grizzly Pool, both as a lifeguard and as a patron).  I also like to read, hike, and play games (including Warhammer 40k and many RPGs, and if you know what these are, come talke to me!)
