    • Artifact ID #: 0152
    • Excavation Unit: Locality 30
    • Level: Unknown
    • Identification: Aqua gothic-style food bottle, likely pickles. Small pickles, like gherkins, came in decorative bottles in the 1800s, and many were preserved inside gothic-style bottles. Gothic-style refers to the use of arches, bands, and other motifs that are reminiscent of that architectural style prominent in many parts of the world. This particular bottle dates to the 1870s and 1880s. Pickles were one of the few vegetables that most miners could acquire easily during the early parts of the gold rush, and this bottle likely represented a welcome addition to their diet.
