German Gulch
Artifacts
ceramics

- Artifact ID #: 0162
- Excavation Unit: Locality 30
- Level: Unknown
- Identification: Chinese brown-glazed stoneware fragment, likely from a wide-mouthed or spouted jar. Small fragments like these are difficult to identify, but due to the type of glaze and the shape, it is likely from a Chinese storage jar that held imported dry or liquid goods. Even though it is difficult to determine the exact type of vessel these fragments represent, they give archaeologists information on how many different types of ceramics were in German Gulch. Future excavations in the area might uncover more of this vessel and these fragments would be ‘mended’ or glued back together to form a more complete picture of life in German Gulch.
