Missoula Information
Incredible scenery, abundant wildlife and endless outdoor activities make Missoula a prime vacation spot. The city itself brims with life and unique culture, due in part to strong community support of small, diverse and funky downtown business. Saturday morning farmers markets, art walks and a bevy of local festivals guarantee a lively social scene nearly every week. Missoula has a unique appeal to musicians and writers, and is mentioned in the novels of Ernest Hemingway, Stephen Frey, Debra Earling and James Crumley. The city has been home to musicians from Pearl Jam and The Decemberists, as well as controversial filmmaker David Lynch. An extremely active town, Missoula strives to accommodate bikers and walkers. The Clark Fork River, as famously noted by Norman Maclean, "runs through" Missoula, providing recreation for kayakers, rafters and tube-floaters; June typically begins the river recreation season, as the water drops to prime levels and the weather heats up. The Rattlesnake National Recreation area provides beautiful hiking, biking and wildlife viewing opportunities. Activities and entertainment in Missoula are never hard to find; the only tough choice is which band, trail, brewery or restaurant you'll want to sample first.
