Frederick W. Skinner, Ph.D.
Biography
Frederick W. Skinner received his B.A. from the University of Colorado in 1964, M.A. and Russian Institute Certificate from Columbia University in 1968, and Ph.D. from Princeton University in 1973. He has been teaching at The University of Montana-Missoula since 1973 where he specializes in the history of Russia and Eastern Europe. He also teaches the Modern European survey course and a specialized course on the music of Beethoven. His publications have focused largely on problems relating to Russian urban history in the late Imperial period, the Russian Revolution of 1917, and selected topics in Soviet history. He is currently writing a book on the reception of Beethoven's music in Russia, 1825-1917, and plans a follow up study on Beethoven in Soviet politics and culture, 1917-1991.
