WELCOME

The History Department welcomes the opportunity to acquaint students with history as an analytical research discipline and to provide them with a life perspective based on actual human experience. We want our students to perceive the fundamental forces of change that shape society´s institutions, values, and culture. To offset parochialism and ethnocentrism, we offer courses that deal with a rich variety of the world´s civilizations, nations, and peoples. Goethe observed that "a person who does not know the history of the last 3,000 years wanders in the darkness of ignorance, unable to make sense of the reality around him." To assist our students in avoiding the tragic fate of Goethe´s ignoramus, we seek to arm them with a sound historical education.
