Multicultural Learning Solutions (MLS) is dedicated to the research and development of multicultural learning and teaching possibilities that internationalize traditional curricula. MLS’ traditional and online courses were developed largely based on Howard Gardner’s research on multiple intelligences. The multiple intelligence instructional approach incorporates and stimulates interpersonal, intrapersonal, verbal/linguistic, visual/spatial, bodily-kinesthetic, musical/rhythmic, existentialist, and emotional learning styles. Because individuals learn in a variety of ways, MLS uses a multiple intelligences approach to accommodate each participant’s learning style.
Each semester, MLS content courses are offered in the Department of Geography and the School of Business Administration. An MLS content course is also offered, typically in fall semester, at the Davidson Honors College at UM. Based on student feedback and research data in the field, MLS courses are continuously updated to provide the most appropriate and up-to-date learning experiences possible.
MLS also develops professional workshops for UM’s Human Resource Services Career Development Program (CDP). The CDP is funded through the President’s Office and the Excellence Fund. University of Montana staff, administrators and faculty are invited to participate at no cost. The program is also open to the Missoula and surrounding business communities. For private businesses, government agencies and non-profit organizations a fee applies. Please contact Emmalee Plenger at Human Resource Services at The University of Montana for the next available MLS training and fees.
Training and survey data is utilized to improve existing MLS courses and workshops, develop new trainings, as well as contribute to the knowledge base through national and international conference presentations and publications in research journals.
