The relatively untouched Coloma mining town ruins in the rugged mountains of Western Montana provide a unique learning experience for archaeology students.
Students participate in detailed documentation of the features of this historical site, including some standing structures. Participants study various archaeological survey techniques, including pedestrian transects and remote sensing experiments.
The data from this fieldwork will be incorporated into a GIS database showcasing a virtual ghost town, including photo-documentation, feature drawings, and archaeological discoveries by students.
