Crisis More will come to light about this as the conference
approaches but due to the ever-changing nature of world politics something
may occur during the conference that demands immediate attention. These
crises tend to be broad in scope and affect all committees. As the theme
for the year is Human Security the situation will have to be first politically
stabilized and then economically and socially stabilized. To this end
delegations will have to keep track of their compatriots in other committees
to Due to all the recent turmoil in the Middle East, it is imperative that the international community watches events in this region very closely. The violence in Israel and the West Bank concerning the fate of the Palestinians has resulted in the Arab League denouncing Israel and its actions. The Arab world has shown such a unified front of animosity towards Israel since the Arab-Israeli War of 1948. In addition, the destruction of the USS Cole, the ongoing struggle between the Turks and their Kurds, and the generally destabilizing presence of rogue nations such as Libya, Syria, and Iraq has caused the region, in recent years, to become more unstable and volatile than ever. An often overlooked point of contention in this region is the Israeli-Turkish alliance. The three largest, strongest nations in the region are also the only non-Arab nations: Israel, Turkey, and Iran. This fact has worried Arab nations in the region since the end of World War II. Turkey has never had good relations with the Arab world, especially its neighbors to the south, Syria and Iraq. The fact that Turkey and Israel have a military alliance only makes matters worse. As events in Israel continue and the Arab nations become more hostile to the Israelis, Turkey's presence in the Middle East should not be overlooked. |
