Applying to Medical School

Early-Decision Programs (EDP)

Several western regional medical schools participating in the WICHE program require certified Montana residents to apply through their Early-Decision Programs (EDP). In addition, this is an option at many other medical schools. Only a few applicants go through this process even though the acceptance rate is higher than with regular admissions and students are accepted through EDP early in the application process. The rules for participating in an EDP are as follows:

Clearly, you must want to attend a particular medical school to participate in this program. If you apply through an EDP, you can not apply to other schools until you have been rejected, formally released from your EDP commitment or the October 1 deadline has passed.

In years past, one or two UM students were accepted each year to the University of New Mexico medical school through their EDP.
