Social Sciences BuildingThe Fred W. Reed Social Science Research Laboratory is located in the Social Science building on the second and third floor. The main departments that uses the labs are Anthropology, Communication Studies, Economics, Environmental Studies, Geography, Political Science and Sociology. The laboratory feature PCs, servers, printers, plotters, digitizers, and scanners all networked under the lab's own network system. Occupying several thousand square feet of space, the SSRL have GIS capabilities as well as qualitative and quantitative research tools. To access the labs, users must be given codes. Codes may be obtained through the Network Administrator or the Lab RA. In order to be eligible for codes, individuals must be graduate students, have permission from an affiliated faculty member, or have a class in the lab that requires access. Codes MUST NOT be given out to anyone or the labs will be recoded at the expense of the department whose student was responsible for providing the code to others. Also see policy.

To print in the SSRL lab, users must have a  UM Account, logging on using their first.last name. This can be acquired through the Network Administrator, the Department Assistant or the Lab RA. The account is initially given $2.00 in free printing. The cost of printing is $.05 for black and white and $.20 for each colored page. Pages are sent to the printers in SSRL 252.
